Roger Federer won his first Shanghai Masters title with a straight-sets victory over Frenchman Gilles Simon.

After losing in the 2010 final to Andy Murray he said to win the biggest tournament in Asia is a treat.

But it was the semi-final game between him and Novak Djokovic which caught the headlines. Federer halted Novak’s 28-match unbeaten run in China.

Federer – seeded third in the tournament, defeated the world number one 6-4 6-4 in a match time of one hour and 35 minutes.

The 33-year-old faced and saved only one break point in the entire match, hitting 35 winners and seven aces, while he won 20 of 35 points at the net.

Four of the seven aces came in one game, which lasted just 47 seconds.
